30 teams confirm participation at National Weightlifting C’ship

ITANAGAR, Nov 19: Thirty states have confirmed their participation in the 48th Men and 24th Women Junior National Weightlifting Championship beginning at Nyikum Nyia Hall, Nirjuli from November 22.

A total 96 medals in both the categories would be up for grab during the 9-day event,  Arunachal Weightlifting Association vice president L. Sokun Singh said.

Meanwhile, a high level meeting of the organizing committee involving the top administrative and police officers and officials was held this morning to review the on-going preparations as well as to discuss security related issues.

According to Indian Weightlifting Federation Joint Secretary and Arunachal Weightlifting Association (AWA) president Abraham K Techi, 80 to 90 of the preparation works have already been completed and rest of the  works are expected to complete well before the commencement of the event.

He said that all rooms available in the hotels of Naharlagun and Nirjuli are booked in advance for the participating athletes and officials.

Doordarshan Kendra (DDK) Itanagar will telecast 30 minutes of the highlights of the event during the championship, the Director of Itanagar DDK, who was also present in the meeting, said adding that he is initiating to telecast the event in DD Sports too.

DIGP Robin Hibu, who has assured to monitor the security arrangements personally, suggested the organizing committee to set up a control room so that no athlete or official faces any problem during the event. He also stressed on wide publicity of the championship through posters, banners, hoardings even through print and electronic media.

Meanwhile, Capital Complex DC has relaxed night curfew for six hours from 5 pm to 11 pm for the proposed championship till November 30.

Chief Minister Nabam Tuki would inaugurate the Championship on November 22.

The competitions would begin from November 23.

The trophies and medals of the event were also displayed before the media persons and other present on the occasion.

Capital Complex Deputy Commissioner Onit Panyang and local MLA and organizing committee overall in-charge Techi Kaso also attended the meeting beside other officers and officials.

 

Capital reels under power crisis

ITANAGAR, Nov19: The twin capital city of Itanagar and Naharlagun have been reeling under darkness over the last three days forcing people to have candle lit dinners. Frequent power failure  in the capital and its adjoining areas have created untold woes among the citizens.

The woes are not yet over as the department is still struggling to supply requisite power.

Itanagar Electrical Sub-division Assistant Engineer L. Tagang informed this daily this afternoon that power crisis within the capital is due to technical snag at 16 MCA transformers at Nirjuli run under Power Grid Cooperation of India.

He further added that Ranganadi line was also unable to supply power during daytime because of less inflow of water in the dam. He further disclosed that restoration process is in full swing and new transformers are on the way to Itanagar. He however said that it may take another three days for complete restoration.

He requested the consumers to bear with the department till the power supply is restored.

The institutions and shops depending on electricity were the worst sufferers. Many computer coaching institutes have reportedly been forced to suspend classes due to power crisis.

“We are compelled to suspend the classes, because inverter cannot give backup for longer period,” said a teacher who runs a coaching institute in Itanagar. According to him power cut has not only incurred heavy losses to his business but has hampered the schedule of the students.

 

IXth Inter-College Youth Festival ends

Rono Hills, Nov 19: The four-day IXth Inter-College Youth Festival which saw participation by eighteen colleges from different part of the states including RGU concluded at Rono Hills  this evening. Rajiv Gandhi University emerged as the Champions in the four day event.

Various cultural, literary, sports and games events witnessed the talents of the participants, who came from far flung areas to represent their respective colleges. “We are lucky as we got a chance for being the part of such a festival which provided us with an opportunity to learn many things besides our regular academic curriculum,” one of the participants said.

The main attraction of the festival was the “Fashion Show” held on the third night. Altogether 32 candidates from various participating colleges competed for Mr and Miss Cadence, Karngam Loyi of North East Homeopathic Medical College and Holem Khangham of Indira Gandhi Govt. College were crowned as Miss and Mr Cadence.

Valedictory function witnessed giving away of prizes of different events held during the festival which was attended by members of the university and invitees.

 

216 medals up for grab in state karate championship

ITANAGAR, Nov 19:  Over 200 karatekas including officials from 13 teams would participate in the 17th State Level Karate-do Championship, 2011 beginning at Sangay Lhaden Sports Complex, Chimpu near here on November 26 next.

Teams from 9 districts viz:  Anjaw, Lohit, East Siang, East Kameng, Lower Subansiri, Papum Pare, Upper Subansiri, Kurung Kumey and Arunachal Pradesh Police, CRPF, Sangey Lhaden Sports Academy and Sports Authority of India, Special Area Game Centre, Naharlagun have confirmed their participation.

The events to be held in the championships are Team Kumite, Team Kata, Individual Kumite and Individual Kata in the age category of  10-11 years, 12-13 years, 14-15 years 16-17 years and senior boys and girls (above 18 years).

A whopping 216 medals would be up for grab in the championship in all categories.

The participating players would be provided food and lodging facilities free of cost by the organizing committee, said Arunachal Karate Association (AKA) president Likha Tara.

AKA has been organizing the championship for the last 17 years regularly despite various constraints which is a great achievement, a proud AKA president Tara said. He sought cooperation from all to make the championship a grand success.

It is worth mentioning here that Karatekas of the state have been performing consistently by winning medal in various national and international level competitions. Many of them have also got Govt jobs under sports quota.

 

Bagang receives Excellency Award

ITANAGAR, Nov 19: Former State NSUI president Kaha Bagang has received the Excellency Award from Rahul Gandhi, AICC General Secretary, in-charge Youth Congress and NSUI in New Delhi on November 17.

He was given the award in recognition of his contribution towards the Congress party, especially in the field of students welfare.

Girish Ghodankar, AICC secretary and in-charge NSUI was also present on the occasion. Meanwhile, Rahul advised the newly elected state NSUI team, which called on the former in New Delhi yesterday, to work with dedication and follow party discipline.

The NSUI team also discussed various issues related to NSUI activities in the state with Rahul.

 

PPA, BJP question Govt’s silence on Supra State status to Nagas

ITANAGAR, Nov 19: BJP and PPA have reacted to the “Supra state status” proposal for the Nagas. According to media reports, the Centre was planning to extend the status to the Nagas. However the Centre is yet to come up with any explanation on the issue which has already created a ripple in the region.

The PPA called on the state govt to call an all party meeting to discuss the issue. It further questioned why Arunachal was yet to react on the issue and added that the Government should make its stand known to the people.

The Bharatiya Janata Party Arunachal Pradesh has also expressed serious concern at the silence being maintained by the state government of Arunachal Pradesh over the proposal. The party has already registered its protest on the proposal.

The state BJP demanded a white paper from the Chief Minister Nabam Tuki, as to why the Government of Arunachal Pradesh is falling on the line of the MHA proposal.

It further reacted to the visit of the senior Nagaland Cabinet Minister, Kuzholuzo Nienu and others to new Lainwang near Khonsa on November 15. It said that it was a matter of concern for the people of the state as such visit has to be done according to the laid down protocol while adding that Changlang, Tirap and newly created Longding are sensitive districts of Arunachal Pradesh.

The Party said that the statement of the Naga Minister was an act of undermining and interference in the internal matter of the state govt. The Minister during his visit had asked Arunachal to take care of the needs of the Tutsa community of Tirap and Changlang.

 

Arunachalee dairy farmers get national award

ITANAGAR, Nov 19: Two Arunachal Pradesh Dairy farmers Katan Ering and Minkeng Modi belonging to Dairy Cooperative Society created under Intensive Dairy Development Programme (IDDP) of Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary, Arunachal Pradesh were awarded “National Dairy Farmers Award” at a glittering function of National Conference of State Ministers of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary and Dairy Development at New Delhi on Nov 18.  The farmers were individually awarded a citation, a shawl and Rs 21,000 by Sharad Powar, Minister of Agriculture. Katan Ering belongs to Sille Primary Dairy Cooperative Society and is a progressive Dairy farmer and maintains Jersy cows. He is also an active member of Sille village Dairy Coop Society.

Minkeng Modi of Ngorlung village Dairy Cooperative Society is Secretary of Ngorlung village DCS. Instead of seeking job elsewhere, Modi after doing his graduatuin (BA) from JN college Pasighat in 2005 started rearing cows.

He maintains jersy cow at his village and also collects milk from local cow herds and distribute milk to the DCS and Ruksin town.

They are progressive dairy farmers under the Dairy cooperative society at their respective villages and are torch bearer of dairy activity in their society created under the IDDP in the year 1996-97, said Managing Director of IDDP Dr Migo Riba. The farmers were sponsored by the Managing Director (IDDP), Nirjuli with an escort Lao Taku to Delhi.

 

Strategic Vjaynagar devoid of any development

ITANAGAR, Nov 19: Centre has pumped in various schemes and projects for socio-economic development in eight north eastern states of the country particularly in health, road, power, irrigation and communication sectors. But one is amazed at the lack of development in strategically important international border areas of Arunachal Pradesh as most of these places of the state are still under darkness in terms of development, road connectivity, and power and telecommunications.

The negligence on the part of government to facilitate the three basis facilities road, health, and electricity and telecommunication services to the strategically important places of Arunachal Pradesh needs to be addressed immediately.

One of such areas is Vijaynagar, which is surrounded by China and Myanmar in its border. But despite its strategic importance, the people of the area are still reeling under various shortcomings.

Though the government has renovated its advance landing ground yesterday, the basic needs of the people are yet to be addressed.

This reporter, who was part of the Governor’s entourage during his visit to Vijaynagar yesterday for reactivation of ALG, interacted with the local people including Vijaynagar circle development committee (VCDC) and Vijoynagar Mahila Samity (VMS).

While disclosing their grievances, they said though the Miao to Vijaynagar road was barely completed, various portions of the road have already been washed away during the last monsoon season. Only three military Gypsy have been able to reach Vijaynagar after the completion of the road!

One of elders of Vijaynagar said that until and unless the construction of the road is handed over to Border Road Organization, the dream of having 365 days road connectivity will not be possible in this important border area.  

Miao Vijaynagar Road was inaugurated by the then Lt Governor of Arunachal Pradesh Lt K.A A Raja in 1972. He even visited Vijaynagar by road. But later maintenance of the road was gradually stopped and all the laborers from the area were withdrawn. For about 35 years, the road has remained closed.

The sole link is through air connectivity, which has also remained out of bounds for the last few years. It was only yesterday, the government reactivated it. But still the people are apprehensive whether the air connectivity will actually serve the needs of the people.

As per the present schedule, the air service is being facilitated from Jorhat which is far off from Vijaynagar. Considering the financial and economic backwardness of the area, if weekly service of AN-32 is facilitated from Mohanbari instead of Jorhat it would be a better option.

The people of the area further expressed their displeasure at unsatisfactory head-load carriage system of PDS items; they strongly urged the government to initiate immediate steps for airlifting of PDS item, and inclusion of other essential commodities like Salt, Dal, Atta, Sugar, Oil in PDS section in addition to Rice. Besides these, the electricity and telecommunication problems are another critical area that needs to be addressed. The town has remained under darkness and without telecommunication facilities for the last many years despite its strategic importance.

To mitigate the electricity problems, the department of Hydro Power has started construction of 100 Kilowatt Micro Hydel Power plant at Vijaynagar.  However, the construction of the project has been halted midway.

 

Dept brush aside allegation

ITANAGAR, Nov 19: Reacting to press statements by various organizations blaming the Department of Power (DoP) for the death of Nyajum Kakki, a young media professional, the Executive Engineer (E), Naharlagun Electrical Division, DoP, Nirjuli has said that the Department should not be held responsible for the death of Kakki until and unless the cause of the accident is proved. The 11 KV line was constructed during 1987 on a no-man’s land and the place of accident is not easily accessible and it is an “unwarranted area” for common people, the EE said in a release.

Further, the department has not received any complaints from any allottee of the plot urging to shift the pole or to increase the ground clearance of the pole, it said.

“Therefore, it is too early for any organization to solely blame the DoP for the accident,” the release added.

Meanwhile, All Arunachal Pradesh Anti Corruption Organization, which inspected the accident site, claimed to have found that the 11 KV line was planted only 1.5 mt above the ground and demanded the DoP to take responsibility for the accident.

The association urged State Government to provide relief to the victim’s family.

 

Regional Conference of Tourism Ministers

ITANAGAR, Nov 19: The Second Inter State Regional Conference of Tourism Ministers of East and North States was held at Shillong on Nov 18.

The daylong conference deliberated upon evolving an approach to develop Tourism in East and North Eastern States and also discussed strategies to harness the potentials in the region. The Union Minister for Tourism Subodh Kant Sahai who inaugurated the event also elicited the comments of the participating States on the approach Paper to the 12th Five Year Plan.

Chief Minister  of Meghalaya Dr.Mukul Sangma, Tourism Ministers of Orissa, West Bengal, Manipur, Sikkim,  Meghalaya, Parliamentary Secretary (Tourism) Nagaland, senior officials of Union and States  Govts, representatives  from  Travel and Tourism Industry and others attended the programe.

The Conference was also attended by G.N. Sinha, principal Secretary (Tourism)  along with tourism officials , tour operators  and Anshu Jamsenpa, Everester  from Arunachal Pradesh .

Sinha  spoke about the need to harness the potential for Tourism in Arunachal Pradesh.

He said that the State would like to develop Tourism facilities along the approved tourist Circuits  and the various tourism destinations  as per the Master Plan prepared by Tata Consultancy Service  under NEC. He also argued for developing inter State Tourism Circuits so that Tourists coming to Arunachal Pradesh do not face trouble  in Assam.

Sinha said that there is need to complete the Green field Airport at Itanagar at an early date and the road connectivity in pipeline should be completed on top priority. In the short term, Arunachal Pradesh should be provided with reliable and safe Helicopter service at different locations, he added.

He further said that there is need to further relax PAP regime in the State and also the training of Tourism Officials and the members of the community for bringing professionalism in tourism Services. Arunachal Tourism Department will also adhere to the Plans and programme under the National Mission on Himalayan Ecosystem under  the National Action Plan on Climate Change( NAPCC) formulated by the PM’s council on Climate Change.

He requested the Ministry of Tourism to issue guidelines to state govts for creating tourism facilities in the Himalayan region keeping in view the imperatives of National Action Plan on Climate Change as well as the State Action Plan on Climate change ( SAPCC).

He argued for giving generous financial support to Arunachal for Tourism development at an early date.

 

Society felicitates achievers

ITANAGAR, Nov 19: Neelam Welfare Society felicitated the achievers among its members at a programme at Arunachal Pradesh Science Centre, Itanagar.

Those felicitated included Neelam Yebin for outstanding performance in AISSE and Neelam Nega for distinction in B.V.Sc & A.H, Central Agriculture University, Imphal, Neelam Rupa for being a topper of Rajiv Gandhi University 2011 in BA (Hons) and Talam Har Neelam for distinction in M. Phil.

Felicitated members acknowledged their parents, guardians, dear ones for the success and thanked the society for their encouraging programme. They also assured to bring laurel and success for the society in future as well and urged the executive members to conduct such programme every year to encourage the young members of the clan.

Creative writing workshops held in Anjaw

ITANAGAR, Nov 19: “Practise putting down your ideas by writing regularly” advised S. Minin, EAC, Anjaw as he keenly sat along with a gathering of young students and teachers at Hawai in the Creative Writing Workshop for students conducted by Vaijayanti Tonpe, a patron volunteer of the VT-AWIC Youth Library Network.  Tonpe, a well-known editor and children’s writer, was on a tour of Anjaw, conducting workshops at Hayuliang and Hawai, at the invitation of the District Education Dept.

During the two-days teachers’ workshop at DRC, Khupa, Tonpe stressed on the importance of brining out the creative abilities of the students by encouraging them to write by looking at even common themes from uncommon angles. All stories evolve around the 9 universal emotions (Nava rasas, in Sanskrit literature), which need to be described by a writer, she said. This could be possible only by extensive reading. “Lead the children to the world of books,” she appealed to the teachers. The workshop saw 40 teachers and 15 students bringing out a wide variety of writings. They were also invited to participate in the “Design a Cover-page” contest by the American Library Association.

Supplementing the session, the Coordinator, VT-AWIC Youth Libraries, read out a variety of writings by the APNE Library readers (most of them students of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya, Wakro), published in various periodicals like the Children’s World, Dimdima and Chakmak. He also highlighted the charm of recorded local history, as many magazines published stories like “When my mother was young.” by the Wakro students. The participants were also shown video-recordings of story-telling and skit presentations in Mishmi Language by the APNE Library readers, which brought out the creative urge in the young minds.

The Hawai workshop was attended by 30 senior students from 3 schools, along with teachers and BRC staff.

Dr. R. C. Nayake, ADEO, Anjaw welcomed the gathering.  Recalling the long and close association of the District Education Dept with the youth library movement, the Coordinator, VT-AWIC Libraries placed on record the spirited and generous patronage of the DDSE Anjaw, K. Perme, in spreading the joy of reading to the remotest corners of Anjaw.

 

NACO/APSACS sponsored training of SHG in Lohit

TEZU, Nov. 19: SIRD Arunachal Pradesh started a series of intensive training programme on SHG management and HIV mainstreaming in Lohit district today.

Inaugurating the programme at Tezu BRC M. Tatum, PD DRDA Lohit District dwelt on the importance of the training programme in Lohit district. He mentioned that training shall contribute towards development of required capacities amongst SHG members for resolution of issues related to SHGs as well as sensitise them about HIV and AIDS. He also appreciated the efforts undertaken by SIRD in creating awareness about HIV / AIDS and also building capacities of SHG members in Lohit district.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. J. Ado from district AIDS Prevention and Control Unit (DAPCU) thanked the efforts undertaken by DRDA and SIRD for mainstreaming HIV and AIDS with SHG training. He categorically mentioned that coordinated efforts of the entire society is necessary for controlling HIV.

Informing that since Lohit remains the lone ‘Category ‘A’’ district under HIV and AIDS, he said that the need for greater awareness and sensitisation is very high.

These programmes are being coordinated by Rakesh Srivastava, Assistant Director SIRD in the district and are a part of the follow-up intervention after the conduction of district level intervention conducted in the previous year. The two days programme would cover issues  related to functional management of SHGs including hands on practice on records keeping and other aspects related with SHG management.

The valedictory function of the Tezu programme was conducted after the programme was successfully concluded on November 19.

Speaking on the valedictory programme as Chief Guest, Pradip K Bhattacharjee, BDO Tezu, appreciated the positive response shown by SHGs from CD Block, ICDS as well as new SHGs. He also called upon the participants to spread greater awareness about HIV and AIDS amongst the people.

 

AVP state level Games & Sports meet begins

Doimukh, Nov 19: The 2-day State Level Sports and Games Meet organized by the Arunachal Vikas Parishad (AVP) kicked off amidst a huge gathering of sportspersons and sports lovers at Rono Hills here today.

Minister Bosiram Siram, who inaugurated the meet, suggested the participants to take up sports seriously as it helps develop one’s physique and mind.

He said that sports, if pursued seriously, could earn livelihood as well as glory for them.

Lauding the AVP for its commendable efforts to tap the latent talents of the young sportspersons in village and block levels, he requested the organizing committee to continue the efforts to groom the sportspersons to help them perform in national and international competitions.

APPSC chairman Dr Ligu Tacho, who was the guest of honour, spoke about the importance of sports activities and advised the youths, especially sportspersons, to maintain discipline to achieve the desired goal.

Major attractions of the inaugural function included a band display by students of VKV, a cultural presentation and competitions such as running race, shot put and long jump besides archery, kabaddi and kho-kho.

Altogether 700 participants representing 19 tribal communities of all districts of the state are participating in the meet.

Meanwhile, the organizing committee today felicitated sports icons Tapi Mra, Tina Mena and Ansu Jamsenpa (Everesters); Yukar Sibi, Soram Hitler Tagru and Tarh Yana (weightlifters); Nabam Devi (physical trainer); Laa Talar (shuttler); Gumpe Rime (footballer); Ganga Magra (boxing); Rakam Dugi (karateka); and Laxmi Mugli, Onam Libang, Techi Lapang and Bipi Gadi (athletes).

Governor flags off river rafting expedition

ITANAGAR, Nov 19: A 10-day rafting expedition, christened ‘International Expedition Brahmaputra’ between Tuting in Upper Siang to Pasighat in East Siang was flagged by Arunachal Pradesh Governor General (Retd.) J.J. Singh at Tuting today. The team will be flagged in at Pasighat on November 28 after covering a distance of 210 km. The expedition includes eighteen international participants.

Interacting with the participants, organizers and local people, the Governor said that events like rafting expedition provides a window to the potentials of the region for the world to see.

Underscoring the huge tourism potential of Siang basin, especially for adventure and eco tourism, the Governor said that River Siang not only has hydro power potential but it could be transformed into an ideal spot for adventure sports and the State government is contemplating to develop tourism in this part of the State in the right perspective.

Earlier on the day, the Governor visited Ngesang Dongak Jangchub Dharjeling Nyingma Monastery and offered prayers.

APP to participate in All India Police Football Tournament

ITANAGAR, Nov 19: Arunachal Pradesh Police (APP) would participate in the 60th BN Mullick Memorial All India Police Football Championship beginning at Deragaon, Assam from November 22.

The team led by Inspector T Lingri would be  leaving here for Assam tomorrow.

 

Panchayat prohibits collection of forest resources

ITANAGAR, Nov 19: Ganga village panchayat under Borum (I) Anchal segment under Papum Pare district has prohibited collection of Bamboo, firewood and destruction of forest resources within Ganga panchayat area to preserve clean environment.

According to a release by the Ganga village ASM, it is also appealed to the land owners not to sell land without prior knowledge of Panchayat leader, GBs and youth leaders of the area.

Meanwhile, the ASM  appealed to the local MLA to initiate steps for construction of village gate at Borum-I Anchal Segment and also urged the state government to properly demarcate the Panchayat jurisdiction of Borum-I.

 

Labour sensitization prog

TEZU, Nov, 19: The All Arunachal Pradesh Government Departmental Labour Union (AAPGDLU), Lohit Unit conducted a sensitization cum awareness program on the implementation of the Arunachal Pradesh Building & Other Construction Workers Welfare Board for the labourers employed under M/s Abir Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd. – A firm working under the M/s Athena Dimwe HEP located at Parshuram Kund of Lohit District.

Some 70 labourers attended the sensitization program along the officials of the M/s Abir Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd. Presently more than 200 labourers under various categories are being employed by the private company at various dam locations.

General Secretary Kejen Tayang appealed to the labourers to enroll themselves under the Labour welfare board and avail the benefits of the labour act. The AAPGDLU team comprised of the Women’s wing team, Chief Advisor, Treasurer and the Asst. General Secretary of the Union.  A team under the AAPGDLU banner has been constituted in the company to look into the issues of the labourers.

The labourers has resolved to enroll themselves in the Welfare Board. The officials of the Company also requested their wage labourers to take the benefit of the labour Act of the Arunachal Pradesh state.

Itanagar, Nov 19: Krishi vigyan Kendra, East Kameng district is organizing Technology week-2011 from Nov 18-25 at its demonstration farm.

The inaugural session was attended by Tage Tado, Additional Deputy Commissioner, ADC, Seppa as chief guest on November 18.

The programme Coordinator, KVK, East Kameng, Dr. Sanjoy Borthakur, highlighted the achievements of the KVK and specifically mentioned the two success stories of KVK, East Kameng. He also informed the gathering about establishment of Automatic Weather Station at the KVK campus from Indian Meteorological Department.

District Agricultural Officer requested farmers to overcome their laziness and use their fertile land to boost up agricultural production with the help of KVK staffs.

Assistant Director of Textile and Handicraft mentioned the importance of Sericulture in his speech while District Statistical Officer urged unemployed rural youth to take active participation in agriculture.

GB’s shared that agricultural inputs are costly and un-affordable for poor farmers without help from government. They acknowledged the activities of the KVK during the short span after its establishment and hoped that other line department should also teach them practically.

Loyang Tabu, one of the farmers and GB  of Jayanti village specifically mentioned the benefit of the FLD on scientific cultivation of high yielding rice varieties undertaken by the KVK and mentioned the advantages he found in the varieties over the local ones. He urges other farmers to adopt the varieties like Ranjit, Bahadur and Mahsuri for getting higher productivity.

Tage Tado, ADC, Seppa said that, since KVK East Kameng is quite new, they need cooperation from all the section of the society and requested all the KVK staffs to bear difficulties of the initial stage like accommodation of staff and other constraints.

The inaugural session was followed by the opening of exhibition by various departments.

After the inaugural session a scientist-farmer interaction was conducted where, the KVK scientists explained the use and importance of technology in modern agriculture and inspired the farmers to be innovative and use the modern technologies in their field. The farmers took the opportunity to clear their doubts regarding various aspects of the agriculture and allied sector.

 

MNC remembers Tage Diibo

ITANAGAR, Nov 19: Meder Nello Council (MNC) observed the first death anniversary of Tage Diibo at Meder Nello here today.

The members of Meder Nellos, Meder Nello Council and family members offered floral tribute and  prayers at Meder Nellos of both Itanagar and Naharalagun for universal peace and peace of Diibo’s soul. Indigenous Faith and Cultural Society of Arunachal Pradesh president YD Thongchi, Chief Advisor Itanagar Meder Nello TH Tayung, MNC member secretary Gyati Rana, chairman Popi Sarmin, Apatani Socio-cultural Society, Apatani Artist Forum Habung Tago were present at Itanagar Meder Nello and offered floral tribute to the portraits of Diibo.

Diibo was a lyricist, singer, composer as well as one of the selfless social workers of the state particularly Apatani community.

 

Condolence

ITANAGAR, Nov 19: Arunachal Students Union of Mumbai(ASUM) has deeply mourned the untimely demise of Joseph Mossang, a final year mechanical engineering student of Goa College of Engineering who met with a road accident on Nov 18.

One of his friends died on the spot while another one is critically injured.

The accident happened after the bike in which they were riding collided with a bus in Goa.

The president of ASUM Rame Mara requested all the students from the state who are studying outside to be careful while riding. This is forth death in this month alone involving engineering students from Arunachal Pradesh.

All Ade Youth Club has mourned the death of Tamar Hiri, driver, APPBn, who breathed his last on November 15 after a prolonged illness.

He left behind his wife, three daughters and a son.

The club members conveyed their deep sense of condolence to the bereaved family and prayed for peace of the departed soul.

Meanwhile, Meder Nello Council, Naharlagun has condoled the death of Nani Chobia, who died yesterday after a prolonged illness. He was serving as Assistant in the department of Hydro Power.

 

Indira remembered

ITANAGAR, Nov 19: Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee has celebrated the 94th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi as “National Integration Day” at Rajiv Gandhi Bhawan here today.

Rajesh Tacho, Minister in his brief speech, remembered Gandhi  as the most powerful lady of the world and her supreme sacrifices for the cause of the nation and its development. He said that Gandhi always had a special attachment and love & affection for the indigenous people of Arunachal Pradesh. He called upon all to take a pledge to follow her foot steps for unity and integrity to build a prosperous nation.

Ex-Minister & President APMCC Yari Dulom said that Gandhi was deeply influenced and inspired by the great leaders of Indian freedom movement and actively participated in the freedom struggle.

T.C.Tok, General Secretary APCC informed that Chief Minister Nabam Tuki, in his message remembered the services rendered by Gandhi for the country and stood for national peace and communal harmony.

 

Hangko Moidam passes way

ITANAGAR, Nov 19: Hangko Moidam, one of the first Police officers of Nocte community  passed away on November 14 after a prolonged illness.

He was born on March 1, 1952 and did his matriculation in 1971 from Board of Secondary Education Assam, Guwahati. He was appointed as ASI on September 14, 1972. He rose to the position of 2nd BN company commander in 1992 and later opted for voluntary retirement from service.

The Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh awarded him commendation certificate in 1992 for his good performances in up keeping law and order. He was the first Soha Nocte to join the first batch of APP (Civil).

All Tirap District Students Union (ATDSU) has mourned his demise and  said that Moidam’s death has created a big void which would be difficult to fill. The people of Tirap would miss his presence, the Union said.

 

ABK welcomes govt. announcement

ITANAGAR, Nov 19: Adi Bane Kebang welcomed the announcement of Chief Minister Nabam Tuki to name the road from Naharlagun State Hospital to Daily Market Naharlagun via Prem Nagar colony after Late Lummer Dai and expressed its gratitude to the government for recognizing the services of Dai in the field of literature.

ITANAGAR, Nov19:  Claiming that insufficient teachers in the college hampers academic performance, Hirik-Hiru Students Union (HHSU) Kamba today demanded authority for immediate posting of assistant professors at Donyi-Polo Government College Kamki. It also appealed to the SSA teachers working under its areas to discharge their duty properly.

ITANAGAR, Nov 19: The first ever Literary, Sports and Cultural Meet of All Kimin Students’ Union (AKSU) would be held at Subansiri Mini Stadium, Kimin from November 24 to 26.

Papum Pare Zilla Parishad chairperson Nabam Aka would attend the opening ceremony as chief guest while Kimin ZPM Bamang Yayu would be the guest of honour.

 

Border study prog

ITANAGAR: Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha of Arunachal Pradesh is undertaking a month-long “International Border Study Programme” in the entire international border districts of the state from November 20.

The team would be flagged off by BJP National Council member Bai Gadi at state BJP office here tomorrow.

 

Children’s Science Congress

ITANAGAR: The State Council for Science and Technology Itanagar is organizing  the state level National Children’s Science Congress on the topic ‘Land resources: uses for prosperity, save for posterity” at Science Center at Indira Gandhi Park Itanagar from 23 to 24 November next.  

The winner would represent Arunachal Pradesh in National Children’s Science Congress scheduled to be held at Jaipur in Rajasthan from 27 to 31 December, 2011.
